Re: "Sexual abuse within fundamental Baptist churches shocking"

The Sun News (Sunday) - - Opinion -

The recent expose reported in the Sun News surrounding widespread sexual abuse within fundamental Baptist churches across the United States is pretty shocking. That revelation, coupled with multi-generational pedophile epidemics reported within the Catholic church, has a chilling effect on many of us who embrace Christianity at its core.

History informs us that religious institutions are not immune to rampant and widespread acts of lust, perversion and misuse of power within the ranks of their leadership. Couple those behaviors with a love for the "almighty dollar" and it is not the least bit surprising that a majority of Americans have thrown in the towel on regular "church" attendance.

Hopefully, religious institutions across our nation will soon awaken to the stark reality that the message they are currently delivering is not the brand that millions of Americans are interested in embracing. New paradigms within these institutions are both needed and warranted; more so now than ever before.
