The hits keep coming for the reeling Ducks, who are 0-6-2 in their past eight games and have dropped into last place in the West Division.

The Ducks learned Thursday that defenseman Hampus Lindholm fractured his left wrist in Saturday’s overtime loss to the Vegas Golden Knights at Honda Center and will be sidelined for approximately six weeks. Tests revealed the extent of the injury Thursday.

“It’s certainly a tough blow for Hampus and the team,” Ducks general manager Bob Murray said. “However, we’ve seen some young players on the back end improve this year and this is an opportunity for them to get more reps.”

Josh Mahura was recalled from the Ducks’ AHL team, the San Diego Gulls, and has replaced Lindholm for each of the five games he’s been out. Mahura is likely to continue to form a defense pair with Kevin Shattenkirk. Mahura has one goal and one assist in five games with the Ducks.

The Ducks were 0-2-1 while Lindholm was sidelined because of an earlier unspecified lower-body injury. He returned to the lineup for a 3-2 loss in OT to the Golden Knights. It wasn’t immediately clear when or how Lindholm was injured. He sat out the past two games.

FLYERS 4, PENGUINS 3 » Claude Giroux scored his second goal of the night on a tap-in with 2:08 remaining and Philadelphia recovered from an early Pittsburgh deluge to slip by the Penguins.

The Flyers trailed by three following a 71-second first-period onslaught by host Pittsburgh but kept chipping away and finally moved in front on Giroux’s easy flip into an open net late in the third.

Giroux’s first goal pulled the Flyers within one in the second period, like his winner a simple shot from in front. Scott Laughton drew Philadelphia even 13:37 into the third.

LIGHTNING 3, BLACKHAWKS 2» Victor Hedman scored 4:59 into overtime, with the puck barely over the line at the horn, and Tampa Bay won at Chicago for its sixth straight victory

JETS 4, CANADIENS 3 » PierreLuc Dubois scored at 4:29 of overtime to give Winnipeg the victory at Montreal in the opener of two-game series. Dubois fired a rolling puck past goalie Jake Allen for his fifth of the season. Winnipeg improved to 5-0 in overtime this season, and Montreal fell to 0-4.

RANGERS 6, DEVILS 1 » Red hot Chris Kreider recorded his second hat trick in five games and New York beat slumping New Jersey. ISLANDERS 5, SABRES 2 » Matt Martin scored twice and New York beat visiting Buffalo in the opener of a three-game series. The Islanders improved to 5-0-1 in their last six overall and 8-0-2 at the Nassau Coliseum to remain the only team without a regulation loss at home. CAPITALS’ OVECHKIN FINED $5K FOR SPEARING » Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin was fined $5,000 by the NHL on Thursday for spearing Boston Bruins rookie Trent Frederic, an amount that is the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement.
