GAME RECAP: BREWERS 7, DODGERS 2

- — Bill Plunkett

THE GAME: Clayton Kershaw gave up home runs to the first two batters of the game and the Milwaukee Brewers went on to hand the Dodgers a 7-2 defeat Tuesday afternoon at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Ariz.

PITCHING REPORT: Kershaw’s first pitch of the game was hit over the fence by Kolten Wong. Luis Urias did the same with Kershaw’s fourth pitch of the game. In all, Kershaw gave up five runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out three in four innings . ... Trevor Bauer followed and retired the first seven batters he faced, five by strikeout. But he also gave up solo home runs to Luke Maile and Billy McKinney in his five innings.

HITTING REPORT: The Dodgers were held to three hits through the first six innings by Brewers starter Josh Lindblom, Leo Crawford, Josh Hader and Brent Suter. Kershaw had one of those hits, a single down the third-base line in his first at-bat of the spring . ... Corey Seager did not hit a home run (after hitting five in his previous six games), but he did go 1 for 3 with a single. He is batting .462 (12 for 26) this spring . ... Matt Beaty and Chris Taylor had doubles . ... The Dodgers finally scored in the eighth inning on singles by DJ Peters, Elliott Soto and Matt Davidson.

DEFENSE REPORT: Playing center field behind Bauer, Peters charged in to make a nice diving catch on a sinking line drive by Bruce Turang in the seventh inning. In the ninth, Peters robbed Turang again, crashing into the wall as he ran down Turang’s drive.
