Senior nutrition programs continue to offer boxed meals
Senior centers in many communities normally offer hot lunches five days a week. Because of the coronavirus pandemic and resulting restrictions, centers suspended sit-down lunches in mid-March 2020 but are offering meals seniors may take home.
Following are the hours and days when centers whose menus were printed on this page before the pandemic are offering meals for pickup.
• Family Service Association, which normally provides hot meals at five centers, now distributes weekly meal packages of five frozen meals, plus milk, bread and fruit, on Wednesdays at the following centers: 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Ontario, 225 B St., 909-395-2021; 10-11:30 a.m., Rancho Cucamonga, 11200 Base Line Road, 909-4772780; 10-11 a.m., Rialto, 1411 S. Riverside Ave., 909-8779706; 10 a.m.-noon, Upland, 250 N. Third Ave., 909-9814501.
These meals are only for those who already participate in the senior lunch program and are 60 or older, and supply is limited. Others who need meals may contact Family Service Association at 951-342-3057.
• Intervale Senior Services distributes seven packaged meals to participants in the senior lunch program 10:30 a.m.-noon Wednesdays at the San Dimas Senior Citizen and Community Center, 201 E. Bonita Ave., San Dimas. Participants pick up their lunches curbside outside doors of the lunch room.
The program is at capacity, but any leftover meals are distributed to people on a waitlist, in order of arrival, from noon to 12:30 p.m. For information, call 909-384-6290.
• In Claremont, lunches are normally served at the Joslyn Senior Center, 660 N. Mountain Ave., and at Blaisdell Park, 440 S. College Ave. Boxed lunches are available for nutrition program participants beginning at 10 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays in front of the Joslyn Center. On Mondays, participants receive lunches for Monday and Tuesday; on Wednesdays they receive lunches for Wednesday through Friday. Information: 909-3995488
• Pomona has transitioned from distributing packaged lunches at Washington Park and Palomares Park to offering home-delivered meals. For information, call 909-620-2324.
• The city of Montclair Senior Nutrition Program distributes boxed lunches 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. weekdays at 5111 Benito St., Montclair. Suggested donation is $2. There are new menus monthly that can be picked up at the drive-thru meal distributions. Information: 909-625-9483.
