Allain’s 316 rushing yards highlight Braves’ rout of Rams
RIVERSIDE » Eddie Allain wants people to know that his Norte Vista teammates, and especially the team’s captains, are the reason he’s succeeding right now.
Allain gained 316 rushing yards and scored four times as Norte Vista toppled Ramona 49-12 in a pivotal River Valley League game on Friday night.
“Without my teammates I couldn’t score or even get a first (down),” he said. “Without them, and the team captains that keep pushing us, I would be nothing. So I’ve got to give thanks.”
Allain gave effusive praise to his offensive line, fullback and wide receivers for putting in the blocks to spring him for four long touchdown runs as Norte
Vista (2-0 overall) totaled 495 yards on the ground.
“I’m not trying to let anybody get down on this team. We just have to continue to strive to be great, and be grateful for everything we do,” he said.
Adrian Monje had seven receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown but Ramona (1-1) gained just 31 yards on the ground and senior quarterback Diego Muniz was consistently under pressure from Norte Vista’s swarming defense.
“Norte Vista defensive coordinator Andy Martinez does a great job with that defense, and they are a very high-energy group,” Ramona coach Ken Mushinskie said.
Allain, who totaled 160plus yards and five touchdowns in last week’s 62-0 win, ran for touchdowns of 67, 69 and 43 yards in the first half as the Braves jumped out to a 35-0 halftime lead.
“The offensive line did really well (and) I know Eddie had a great night but he had some big holes made by the offensive line, and the biggest thing is we ran the ball hard,” Norte Vista coach Ken Batdorf said.
The Braves’ first play from scrimmage went to Allain and he turned the corner and went up the right side for 67 yards and an early 7-0 lead.
“Whoever scores the first one sets the tempo, and then we keep going and we keep going,” Allain said.
