Riverside LGBTQ+ Pride plans 2 events
Riverside LGBTQ+ Pride has two events coming up: a Mother’s Day brunch and a June awards ceremony.
Braunwyn WindhamBurke, of “The Real Housewives of Orange County” is set to appear at the May 8 Mother’s Day Brunch fundraiser at VIP Nightclub, 3673 Merrill Ave., Riverside. The event will include food, entertainment and the chance to meet the reality TV star.
Windham-Burke came out as a lesbian in 2020 and is the first openly gay cast member on the show, the group’s news release states.
“Being a mom to queer kids is awesome,” Windham-Burke said in the release. “You get to see your kids thrive and shine when they’re surrounded by love and acceptance.”
The event will benefit Riverside LGBTQ+ Pride Inc., a Riverside-based nonprofit group that aims to boost the visibility of and support the LGBTQIA+ community across the Inland Empire. The brunch will also feature surrogate mother figures for those not in contact with their mother or who have lost them.
Brunch tickets can be purchased at Riverside PrideIE.org.
The organization’s June 25 awards ceremony will honor those who have supported the Inland LGBTQ+ community.
The group’s first such ceremony will be at Riverside Pride’s Masquerade Gayla at Crestmore Manor in Jurupa Valley.
“Riverside LGBTQ+ Pride hopes that by recognizing the tireless work of these luminaries that it can help boost their signals, further their work, and rally others to do more,” Riverside LGBTQ+ Pride President Ray Yu said in a news release.
Nominations are being accepted and can be made on the group’s website.
The black-tie event will include food, entertainment, and a silent auction. Proceeds will help support Riverside Pride’s mission and its Pride festival planned for Sept. 4.
