CAST Players stage `Always ... Patsy Cline' production

Catherine DeBrule of Yucaipa and Dena Mattox of Redlands are starring in CAST (Catch a Star Theatrical) Players’ production of “Always … Patsy Cline,” running through May 15 at the Beaumont Presbyterian Church.

The musical, created by Ted Swindley, is based on the true story of a friendship that developed after a chance meeting in 1961 between country singer Patsy Cline and Houston housewife Louise Seger, one of Cline’s fans, according to a news release.

Although they met only once, they kept up a correspondence until Cline’s death in an airplane crash in 1963.

The show features more than two dozen of Cline’s hits, including “Crazy,” “Sweet Dreams,” “Walkin’ After Midnight,” “I Fall to Pieces,” “She’s Got You,” “Faded Love” and “Your Cheatin’ Heart.”

Directing the Beaumont production is Ralph Griffey, who has directed other CAST Players productions as well as shows for other Inland Empire theater groups, including the Redlands Footlighters.

Catherine DeBrule, playing Patsy Cline, has performed in other CAST Players productions including as Vern in “Bingo, The Winning Musical,” for which she received an Inland Theatre League award, according to the news release.

She also has performed in Redlands Footlighters and Redlands Theatre Festival productions, among others.

Dena Mattox, playing Louise Seger, recently moved to Redlands from San Diego, where she was active as an actor, director and producer for numerous theaters. Her many credits include playing Ruthie in “Making God Laugh” at the Point Loma Playhouse and two seasons as Margarita in the Ramona Pageant.

“Always … Patsy Cline” opened Sunday and performances continue at 7 p.m. today, Saturday and May 14 and 2 p.m. Sunday and May 15.
