PHYLLIS M. KENNEDY

March 11, 1932 - April 5, 2022

Phyllis Marie Kennedy was the beloved daughter of David J. Kennedy and Candace Marie Brown Kennedy. Born in Sacramento and arriving in Riverside in 1939, Phyllis went through school at St. Francis de Sales Catholic School. She attended Riverside Community College and graduated from San Diego Catholic College for Women, now University of San Diego.

Phyllis was born to teach and teach she did for most of 53 years. Her last school was Val Verde Elementary where she taught kindergarten through second grade until she retired and then spent 9 years rising at 5 am four days a week to be ready to drive to Perris if there was a call for a substitute, and most days, there was. In her second retirement she volunteered for Catholic Daughters of America, the Knights of Columbus and the St. Francis Women’s Ministry.

Her legacy is the students she educated, those she inspired, the organizations she helped, and the friends she loved.

Phyllis was grateful to the staffs at Gardens of Riverside, ET Woodville II Catholic Board and Care and St. Verena Catholic Hospice for their loving care at the end of her life.

Rosary and Funeral Mass will be at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 2 pm. Repast to follow in the Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, Phyllis would appreciate donations to your favorite pet charity or to St. Francis de Sales Church.
