Concert will feature Disney music

- From staff reports

“The Wonderful World of Disney” is the theme of the Ontario Chaffey Community Show Band’s next concert, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Merton Hill Auditorium on the southwest corner of North Euclid Avenue and Fifth Street on the Chaffey High School campus in Ontario.

The free concert will feature a collection of hits from Walt Disney cartoons, television programs and films, and the Woodwind Celebration Ensemble will present a preconcert program at 7 p.m. in the auditorium lobby, according to a news release.

Featured soloists include Ontario Chaffey Community Show Band trombonist Stephen Cavaretta, who will perform “Stay Awake” from the film “Mary Poppins,” and alto saxophone player and dancer Kathy Soderlund, who will be featured in “A Whole New World” from “Aladdin” and a medley of themes from the “Zorro” films. Soderlund has created the choreography for both pieces.

The guest artist is singer Charlie Nolte, who grew up in Pomona and is the son of Aimee Nolte, who has performed several times with the Ontario Chaffey Community Show Band.

Nolte, who attended Brigham Young University-Idaho last year, has studied with vocal coach Sara Leib and appeared in national commercials for Suave and MercedesBenz. He also has performed with the Bonita High School Chamber Singers and played the role of Pinocchio in “Shrek.” He plans to attend Fullerton College in the fall and continue his music studied at the Berklee School of Music.

In the band’s concert, Nolte will be featured in “Evermore” from “Beauty and the Beast,” “When

She Loved Me” from “Toy Story 2” and “Tonight” from “West Side Story.”

The band will open the concert with “Disney’s Magic Kingdom,” a medley of tunes including “When You Wish Upon a Star,” “Someday My Prince Will Come” and “Mickey Mouse March.”

The concert’s finale, “Disneyland Adventure,” is a collection of melodies Disneyland visitors have heard for years, including “It’s a Small World,” “Ballad of Davy Crockett,” “Chim Chim Cher-ee,” “Whistle While You Work” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”

The show band also is scheduled to perform in the Memorial Day remembrance program at Bellevue Memorial Park in Ontario at 10 a.m. May 30.
