Jazz bands play at downtown hall
They jazzed up the crowd one more time as the school year nears its end.
Three bands from Riverside City College’s nationally recognized jazz program performed Thursday and Friday nights at the Henry W. Coil Sr. and Alice Edna Coil School for the Arts Concert Hall in downtown Riverside.
The lineup included the Tuesday Evening Jazz Ensemble,
directed by Brian McNair; Jazz Lab Band No. 1, led by James Rocillo; and the Thursday Evening Jazz Ensemble, directed by Steven Ragsdale.
The concert was part of a two-day program featuring six groups, RCC spokesperson Peggy Lomas said.
Friday’s lineup included Jazz Lab Band No. 2, directed by Brian Mantz; RCC Jazz Ensemble, directed by Charlie Richard; and the Monday Evening Jazz Ensemble,
directed by Kevin Mayes and Charlie Richard.
The concert hall also will host two well-known musicians May 22.
Tom Hooten, principal trumpet with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, will perform an 11 a.m. recital that day, followed by a 4 p.m. show by the RCC Concert Band and Wind Ensemble that will feature saxophone virtuoso Harvey Pittel, a news release states.
