Costco, Aldi, car wash and Starbucks to open this summer at The Vineyard in Murrieta
A once-disputed Costco in Murrieta is due to open in August, the only new location for the retailer due this year in California.
The big-box retailer is among a host of new shops opening at The Vineyard at Clinton Keith Road and the 215 freeway. According to a schematic by WestMar Commercial Real Estate, Phase 1 includes the debut of retailers Aldi, Farmer Boys, Starbucks and a car wash.
Costco, part of Phase II retailers, is slated to open in August, according to the retailer’s website.
The Issaquah, Washington-based Costco, along with its eight-lane gas station, is taking shape in a 151,000-square-foot warehouse store in the northwest corner of the sprawling retail center. The behemoth retailer also is getting hundreds of parking spots to accommodate the crowds who have to drive to nearby cities to get their Costco fix.
The retailer first applied for a permit in early 2018. It then met resistance from Skyview Ridge residents who were concerned about environmental and traffic issues regarding the planned site, which also will include a sprawling new shopping center.
A Costco representative told the Murrieta City Council in late 2020 that the retailer was looking to cut commutes for its members to other Costco locations in Temecula and Lake Elsinore.
“That’s 24,000 (members) of the 37,000 households in the city,” said Jenifer Murillo, director of real estate at Costco Wholesale. “We’re aware that the Temecula Costco is particularly crowded, and can be a less than enjoyable experience at peak time. It’s standard economics — if your demand exceeds your supply, you build more supply.”

The concept includes a knighted theme with black, white and red colors, a beer wall, round booths, a game room and a party room.

80 Chromebooks are available at Riverside County libraries
Riverside County’s library system now has 80 Chromebooks available for checkout.
The laptops were made possible thanks to the Southern California Library Cooperative and the California State Library.
Beginning May 10, library patrons can use their library cards to check out a Chromebook, same as they do for books, DVDs and hotspots.
The computers, which operate on a Linux-based Chrome operating system, are pre-loaded with Google’s proprietary software, which includes Google Docs, Google Sheets and Google Slides.
Chromebooks can be
checked out for up to three weeks, the library said. Contact your local library branch to find out if any are available.
The library said that when a Chromebook is returned, all data and usage is removed from the device before it’s available for the next user.
