Newsom's spending plan for state's budget surplus
Re “Budget swells to $97B surplus” (May 14):
Gov. Gavin Newsom boasts, “No other state in American history has ever experienced a surplus as large as this.” He is right because no other state in American history has had such high taxes as we have in California. Newsom and the supermajority Democratic Legislature would never dream of cutting any of those taxes. When people vote next month, they need to remember that Newsom and the Legislature have not spent all of the money voted for water storage, so we are now asked to cut back on usage with a hot summer coming. Also, Newsom and the Legislature have continued to drag their feet on increasing electrical power so that we will continue having “brownouts” during the summer. Surplus or no surplus, Californians continue to suffer from incompetent leadership.
