Housing, water shortages and YIMBYs among us
Re “We are the problem in housing shortage” (May 15):
Larry Wilson’s stirring op-ed concerning NIMBYs in South Pasadena and, I’m assuming, its surrounding metropolitan areas makes me anxious to read about the personal contributions he suggests we all should make for tackling California’s housing and water shortages.
Based on his editorial stance, he appears poised to build an eightplex in his own backyard.
Doing so will certainly be a progressive step because it eliminates a Wilson-watered garden that otherwise guzzles gallons of California’s scarce water (his garden, like Big Ag, will be gone), and there will be no more lawn for Larry to mow or water either (that is, unless he’s already Astroturfed it).
The real bonus? His neighborhood enjoys seven more stacked bungalows that will house seven formerly homeless families, thanks in large part to Mr. Wilson and other YIMBYers who do more than recognize a problem; they immediately act to solve it.
Or are their musings merely, as Wilson writes, “paper exercises.”
