CMS tennis bouncing back

Led by Nikolina Batoshvili and the doubles team of Gabby Lee and Sydney Lee, Claremont-MuddScripp­s women’s tennis team is on its way to Orlando for next week’s NCAA Division III quarterfin­als.

Batoshvili won in both singles and doubles, and the Lee team won 8-0 in doubles as CMS defeated Case Western Reserve University 5-0 in a NCAA Division III Tournament Round of 16 win on Saturday.

CMS won regional titles for nine consecutiv­e years from 2011-’19 before the two-year break for the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2018, the Athenas won the NCAA Division III national title and were national finalists in 2019.

The 2022 NCAA Division III national quarterfin­als begin Monday. CMS (24-3 overall) plays MIT at 12 p.m. at the USTA National Campus.
