Concert on Sunday will feature two requiems

- From staff reports

Inland Master Chorale will present “Reflect, Remember, Rejoice,” a concert featuring the requiems by Gabriel Fauré and Maurice Duruflé, 4 p.m. Sunday in Memorial Chapel on the University of Redlands campus, 1200 E. Colton Ave.

For its final concert of the season, the chorale is performing music to honor those lost during the global pandemic and to inspire hope for a brighter future, according to a news release.

In addition to the requiems by French composers Fauré and Duruflé, the concert includes “Heavenly Home,” a collection of three American songs arranged by Los Angeles-based composer Shawn Kirchner.

Organist Philip Hoch will accompany the chorale on both requiems, playing Memorial Chapel’s Casavant organ, which was restored in 2003. Hoch graduated from the University of Redlands and recently completed his doctor of musical arts degree from UCLA.

George Becker will sing baritone solos in both requiems. Soprano Susan Meinders will sing the “Pie Jesu” movement in the Faurè requiem, and soprano Sally Greenleaf will sing the “Pie Jesu” in the Duruflé requiem.

Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door and $10 for students and children. Children younger than 5 are not admitted. Tickets are available in advance from chorale members and at inlandmasterchorale.org.

There are no COVID-19 restrictions in effect for this concert, according to the news release.
