Retired British bomber pilot to speak
A talk about British bombing operations in World War II is set for the March Field Air Museum near Riverside on Saturday.
Kenneth Wright, a 98-year-old retired lieutenant with the British Royal Air Force and a museum docent, will speak on British night bombing during the war. Wright took part in the British air campaign against Germany and flew in DeHavilland “Mosquito” and Handley Page “Halifax” bombers, a museum news release said.
During the free 1 p.m. presentation, he will discuss the aircrafts, navigational systems, target markers and German defenses, according to the release. It is part of the The Inland Empire Aviation Roundtable series.
Wright enlisted in the British Royal Air Force on his 18th birthday: Dec. 8, 1941. After the war, he participated in the Berlin Airlift, the release said. Wright also took part in a nuclear bomb testing and missilerelated assignments with the U.S. Marine Corps before he retired.
The museum is alongside the 215 Freeway at Van Buren Boulevard, near Riverside, and is adjacent to March Air Reserve Base.
