New basketball court mural is unveiled

- From staff reports

Riverside’s Casa Blanca community has a new mural.

Unveiled March 5, it is painted on the recently renovated basketball court at the Casa Blanca Home of Neighborly Service.

A ceremony attended by local officials, Home of Neighborly Service board members and Blue Shield of California representatives dedicated the artwork, which was created by local artist Pete Salcido.

The mural will serve as “a tribute to the organization’s mission in Riverside County to empower individuals to overcome challenges, creating a safe space for youth to gather, thrive, and stay active,” states a news release from Blue Shield of California, which sponsored the mural.

The basketball court, which was more than 50 years old, was recently demolished and replaced by Victor Construction, Inc. in Jurupa Valley.
