No. 17 UCLA falls at home against Washington State

Bella Murekatete had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Washington State beat No. 17 UCLA 62-55 on Thursday night for its firstever win at Pauley Pavilion.

Washington State entered 0-34 against the Bruins in Westwood — with just 10 wins in 80 overall games. The Cougars (19-9, 9-8 Pac12) need to win at USC on Saturday to post back-toback winning seasons in Pac-12 play for the first time in program history.

Washington State used a 12-0 run in the third quarter to turn a four-point deficit into a 37-29 lead. Murekatete made two free throws with 1:21 left in the quarter to give the Cougars a nine-point lead before UCLA closed to 45-40 entering the fourth.

Tara Wallack’s 3-ponter started a 6-0 Cougars run and UCLA (21-8, 10-7) was undone by closing on 2-of12 shooting in the final five minutes.

Wallack finished with 15 points.

Washington State jumped out to a 13-4 lead as UCLA didn’t make its first field goal until Gabriela Jaquez got a friendly roll with 1:40 left in the first quarter. The Bruins missed their opening 13 shots of the game. UCLA’s six points were its fewest in any quarter this season.

UCLA scored 10 unanswered points during a 14-4 run to close the first half for a tie at 25-all.

Charisma Osborne led UCLA with 14 points and eight rebounds.

Haley Jones scored 13 of her 23 points over the two overtime periods and the visiting Cardinal held off the Buffaloes.

Jones also had 11 rebounds and seven assists for Stanford (27-3, 15-2 Pac-12).

Stanford’s Lauren Betts sent the game into double overtime by hitting one of two free throws with 3.8 seconds remaining.

Jaylyn Sherrod led Colorado (21-7, 12-5) with 19 points, including the gametying basket with 23.8 seconds left in regulation.

The Cardinal missed their opening 15 shots and trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half.

Alissa Pili scored 26 points and Jenna Johnson added 21 to help the host Utes beat the Golden Bears.

Utah (24-3, 14-3 Pac-12) went 5-for-7 from behind the 3-point line.

Jayda Curry paced Cal (13-15, 4-13) with 28 points.

Te-Hina Paopao scored 21 points and the Ducks (15-13, 6-11 Pac-12) ended the game with a 16-3 run in an upset victory over the visiting Wildcats (21-7, 116) that ended a seven-game losing streak.

Zia Cooke scored 19 points and Kierra Fletcher had 15 as the Gamecocks scored a road win over the Volunteers.

South Carolinas (28-0, 15-0 SEC) clinched at least a tie for the regular-season conference title.

The Gamecocks dominated the rebounding 4834, with 20 of them on the offensive glass. Kamilla Cardoso had 15 boards and Brea Beal had 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Rickea Jackson scored 21 points for Tennessee (2010, 12-3), which led 19-10 after the first quarter.

Men

Logan Johnson scored 29 points and the host Gaels clinched at least a share of the West Coast Conference regular-season title with a victory over the Tigers (13-17, 6-9).

Alex Ducas added 17 points for Saint Mary’s (25-5, 14-1).
