Los Osos, King girls seeded for Division 1
The Los Osos and King girls tennis teams did not square off during the regular season this year, but the Inland powerhouses could cross paths in the CIF Southern Section playoffs.
For the second straight season, Los Osos was not selected to compete in the Open Division (eight teams) and instead picked up the No. 1 seed in the Division 1 bracket. The Grizzlies (12-0), champions of the Baseline League, received an opening-round bye and will host Arcadia (16-2) or Foothill Tech (47) in a second-round match Friday afternoon.
Los Osos advanced to the Division 1 championship match last season, but dropped a 10-8 decision to Tesoro.
King is the No. 4 seed in the Division 1 bracket and would face Los Osos in the semifinals if both teams reach that round. The Wolves (21-1), champions of the Big VIII League, also received a first-round bye and will host University (13-3) or Oak Park (15-3 in a second-round match Friday.
Seven other Inland teams received a Top 4 seeding in their respective playoffs divisions.
Liberty earned the No. 1 seed in Division 6 after capturing the Mountain Pass League championship. The Bison (15-2) will host Knight (6-6) or St. Monica Prep (77) in Wednesday’s opening round. Woodcrest Christian and Western Christian received the No. 2 and No. 4 seeds, respectively, in Division 6. Woodcrest Christian (10-4-1), the co-champion of the Ambassador League, will host Nogales (5-10) or Desert Hot Springs (7-9) on Wednesday afternoon. Western Christian (13-4), which placed third in the San Joaquin League, will travel to Academy for Academic Excellence (11-5) in the opening round.
Valle Vista League champion San Dimas is the No. 4 seed in Division 4, and the Saints (15-2) will host Alta Loma (11-10) in a firstround match Wednesday afternoon.
Inland teams picked up three of the seeds in the Division 5 bracket. Sunbelt League champion Valley View is the No. 2 seed, and the Eagles (14-2) will host Jurupa Valley (8-9) or Santa Fe (9-4) in Wednesday’s opening round. Citrus Hill, the Mountain Pass League’s runner-up, is seeded No. 3, and the Hawks (14-4) will host Lancaster (13-4) in the first round. Patriot finished third in the River Valley League but received the No. 4 seed. The Warriors (10-7-1) will open on the road Wednesday at Sierra Vista (14-8).
