Group awards scholarships to 11 medical students
The Riverside County Medical Association recently awarded $50,000 in scholarships to 11 medical students from Riverside County.
The scholarships were awarded at the association’s 13th annual Caring for Our Future medical scholarship fundraiser held Oct.18 at the Riverside Convention Center.
The scholarship recipients are attending medical schools across the United States and have demonstrated their dedication to returning to Riverside County to serve their community once their training is complete, according to a news release.
This year’s Riverside County Medical Association scholarships went to
Adam Dew, Nahid Howard and Raksha Maharaj, students at Western University; Cynthia Janku, Lana Mamoun, Colton Rosendahl and Bradley Ventayen, students at California University of Science and Medicine; Crystal Nguyen and Zahab Qazi, students at UCR School of Medicine; Brandon Oddo, a student at Boston University; and Harjot Uppal, a student at Albany Medical College.
Riverside County Medical Association’s scholarship program is designed to help ease the financial burden of medical school debt, which is a significant obstacle for aspiring physicians, according to the news release.
The annual scholarship fundraiser is supported by the local health care community including Kaiser
Permanente, Riverside; the medical staff of Parkview Community Hospital; ProAssurance; California University of Science and Medicine; the medical staff of Eisenhower Medical Center; Inland Empire Foundation for Medical Care; Mission Pediatrics; the medical staff of Riverside Community Hospital; Loma Linda University School of Medicine; Desert Orthopedic Center; Desert Regional Medical Center; Inland Empire Health Plan; Riverside University Health System; UHS SoCal MEC; Vituity; Altais Medical Group; Lockton; and UC Riverside School of Medicine.
Since 2012, the Riverside County Medical Association has awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships to 141 medical students from Riverside County, according to the news release.
In 2019, the association expanded the program to award loan assistance scholarships to early career physicians practicing in Riverside County. This new program is currently giving support to 11 local physicians.

The Riverside County Medical Association was established in 1893 and represents Riverside County physicians with more than 2,100 members. The association’s medical student scholarship program is organized under the Riverside County Physicians Memorial Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
