Students, staff, parents receive achievement awards
The San Bernardino City Unified School District’s Board of Education recently presented outstanding achievement awards to students, parents and staff from Ramona-Alessandro and Lankershim Elementary Schools, Del Vallejo Leadership & STEAM Academy and Middle College High School.
The Outstanding Student awards honor excellence in academics, athletics, fine arts, citizenship and improvement. The board’s Outstanding Parent/ Grandparent/Volunteer awards and Outstanding Employee awards recognize people for their dedication to student achievement and well-being.
Ramona-Alessandro Elementary School students receiving Outstanding Student Awards at the Oct. 17 event were fifth-grader
Vivionna Hamilton and sixthgrader Jason Johnson.
Ramona-Alessandro’s Outstanding Parent Award went to Cathlene Botello, the Outstanding Classified Employee Award went to secretary Ashley Dorsey, and the Outstanding Certificated Employee Award went to demonstration teacher Shannan Usher.
Lankershim Elementary School students receiving Outstanding
Student awards were fourth-grader Veronnika Palmer and sixth-grader Diego Ramirez.
Lankershim Elementary’s Outstanding Parent award went to Samantha Liotta, the Outstanding Classified Employee award went to bilingual attendance assistant Susie Vazquez, and the Outstanding Certificated Employee award went to kindergarten teacher Gail Shaw.
Eighth-graders Tyree Hollins and Kimberly Nguyen received Del Vallejo Leadership & STEAM Academy’s Outstanding Student awards.
Del Vallejo’s Outstanding Parent award went to Marisol Delgado, the Outstanding Classified Employee award went to custodian Marcelle Baber, and the Outstanding Certificated Employee award went to middle school science teacher Elizabeth Thomas.
Seniors Anthony A. Lopez and Nishia McCain received Middle College High School’s Outstanding Student awards.
Middle College High School’s Outstanding Parent award went to Hardy Brown Jr., the Outstanding Classified Employee award went to custodian Silvia Hernandez, and the Outstanding Certificated Employee award went to Axel Olson, chairman of the school’s math department.
