Taoseña True
Ever since the town of Taos’ highly successful “Remarkable Women” campaign in 2012, there has been an emphasis to focus the spotlight on Northern New Mexico’s many impressive women, and rightly so. “Taos Woman” is The Taos News’s contribution to this ongoing effort.
They are not the “fairer sex” by any chauvinistic standards. They are tough, yet compassionate. They are pioneers, nurturers, entrepreneurs, healers, teachers, activists, athletes, artists and adventurers. They are the women of Taos and we salute them.
Within these pages of our eighth edition of “Taos Woman” (the inaugural publication was named “Remarkable Women of Taos” in 2012) are more stories of some of Taos’s shining beacons that embody the strength and soulfulness of this place, and prove that Taos has broken stereotypes.
Mother/daughter artists Karen Mccurtain-blair and Allegra Sleep; Enos García Elementary School teacher Connie White; social advocate Michelle Concha; Taos Land Trust Executive Director Kristina Ortez; art foundation creator and director Sandra “Zandi” Richardson; female river rafting guides; entrepreneur and dog trainer Jane Gerard; Paula Randall of Randall Lumber; town of Taos events coordinator Judy Esquibel; Anita Bringas, University of New MexicoTaos strategic support manager; county animal control officer Linda Sanchez; and successful business owner and the very charitable Wanda Lucero are Taoseña true.
Get to know these special people, for they are instrumental in forming our community’s future while honoring the traditions and embodying the spirit that make Taos, Taos.
