Big thanks from a grateful state candidate

- Susan Herrera

I would like to thank all of my friends and supporters for all the help they gave to our campaign for the last six months. It was an amazing adventure and the best education one could have.

Learning about the issues of the 41st District and coming together to build a campaign of ideas and issues to take forward to the people and the legislature was a privilege and honor. I promise to do my best to represent the voters of the 41st District at the 54th convening of the New Mexico State Legislature.

I would also like to thank all those in District 41 who ran with me in the New Mexico primary of 2018. By that I mean all the DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE HOUSE REPRESENTATIVES, DISTRICT #41

candidates for sheriff, judge, county commissioner and all the candidates at the statewide level, and, yes, my opponent Debbie Rodella.

A robust democracy calls for an educated citizenry, open debate and an exchange of ideas before the electorate. I must admit that even if I wouldn’t vote for all the people who ran, I admired their courage and personal strength in taking on the task of running for office. It’s difficult work on the best days and impossible work on others.

For those of you who won, I promise to work with you to create the best possible scenario for working families in the North. For those who lost, I know how heartbreaking that can be.

I watched my father lose a mayoral election when I was 18 and it’s difficult. For all those candidates and all those who worked so hard on this campaign, please don’t be discouraged.

You won by running, by being a vibrant member of a free democracy and you should hold your head up high. My vote goes to the gladiators who stand in the arena and fight. And I applaud each of you for that courageous act.

As a Democrat to the marrow of my bones, I can tell you that this is just the first part of the journey. The huge task ahead will be to elect Democrats at all levels to create a strong and vibrant Democratic Party at the state and national level. We need a government of the people that works for the people, not for moneyed interests. This is our national nightmare.

So in closing, thank you once again, and join me in helping to create a Democratic landslide for New Mexico in November of 2018.
