Taos wel­comes hol­i­day sea­son with Yule­tide Tree Light­ing Fri­day

The town of Taos will kick off the win­ter hol­i­day and Christ­mas sea­son with the 32nd an­nual Yule­tide Tree Light­ing Cer­e­mony Fri­day (Nov. 30) from 4 to 6 p.m. at Coron­ado Hall and at the Taos Plaza.

Mayor Dan Bar­rone do­nated the tree, har­vested from the lo­cal Car­son Na­tional For­est, that will be dec­o­rated and lit up Fri­day evening on the Plaza.

Events will be­gin at Coron­ado Hall with a wel­come by Town Man­ager Rick Bel­lis and an in­vo­ca­tion, hol­i­day greet­ings by Dwayne T. Left­Hand Sr. (Taos Pue­blo Warchief Sec­re­tary), fol­lowed by a walk to the Plaza for a count­down to the tree light­ing by the mayor and first lady Della Bar­rone.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will ar­rive by fire truck in­stead of sleigh

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be hand­ing out 300 treat-filled stock­ings to chil­dren at Coron­ado Hall, do­nated by the Taos Op­ti­mist Club Elves. Peo­ple of all ages can take a photo with Santa for $5 and re­ceive a 4 x 6-inch photo, which in­cludes a photo frame greet­ing card.

Mu­sic will be pro­vided by Mari­achi El Ti­gre un­der the di­rec­tion of Juan Archuleta, Taos High School and Taos Mid­dle School Choir un­der the di­rec­tion of Joaquin Maes­tas-Manuel, Na­tive Amer­i­can flute player Mar­ian Rainer, and Mys­tic Dance. The an­nual Elec­tric Light Pa­rade has been can­celed due to an ex­pected snow­storm. Be pre­pared to sing along with car­ol­ers as well.

The Fi­es­tas de Taos Royal Court will be on hand to greet vis­i­tors and the town of Taos man­age­ment team will light the Plaza

The Plaza will be closed to ve­hi­cle traf­fic and park­ing from 5 a.m. to 12 a.m. on Nov. 30. The Taos Plaza mer­chants will be open to foot traf­fic. Free event park­ing will be avail­able at our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Loretto Park­ing Lot, Town Hall, and Taos Pub­lic Li­brary. Af­ter 5 p.m. all me­tered park­ing lots will be free.

Com­pli­men­tary hot choco­late and cook­ies will be served. Ev­ery­one is in­vited to the fes­tiv­i­ties.

Con­tinue the hol­i­day fes­tiv­i­ties Sat­ur­day with the light­ing of Le­doux Street and Hol­i­day Block Party from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Mil­li­cent Rogers Mu­seum also has a hol­i­day fi­esta Sat­ur­day with free ad­mis­sion from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Sun­day (Dec. 2) is a hol­i­day arts and crafts fair at the Talpa Com­mu­nity Cen­ter.
