ICE SKATING

The ice rink at the Taos Youth and Family Center is open seven days a week for public recreational skating. Cost to get on the ice is $3 for adults and $2 for children and includes skate rental. Hours of operation are 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday; 1:30 p.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays; and 1 -5 p.m. Sundays. Closed on Holidays. Closing time may vary occasionally depending on the schedule for tournaments and events. Other programs available the ice rink include figure skating lessons, hockey lessons and group rates (if booked in advance). Helmets and safety equipment are available at the skate rental counter. TRAIL CLOSURE

The Bureau of Land Management Taos Field Office is continuing the closure of the La Junta Trail at the Wild Rivers Recreation Area. The closure is required to address maintenance needs. The closure will remain in effect until further notice. La Junta Point Overlook and Campground will remain open during this time. Visitors can access the River Trail and the lower parts of the canyon from the Little Arsenic Springs Trail or Big Arsenic Springs Trail. The BLM asks the public to respect the closure of the trail.

As always, the BLM Taos field office reminds all visitors to take precautions when visiting public lands. Visitors are reminded to dress appropriately, consider local weather conditions and altitude and remember your outdoor essentials: water, snacks, appropriate footwear, hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.

TAOS SKI VALLEY OFFERS DISCOUNTS TO MILITARY, NFO GETS WOUNDED WARRIORS SKI GRANT

Taos Ski Valley and Not Forgotten Outreach invite past and present military members, their immediate families, and Gold Star Families to enjoy the 6th annual Not Forgotten Outreach Ski Week, from Jan. 22 – 27. Providing an affordable week on the slopes, this opportunity includes free equipment rentals, $40-day lift tickets, group lessons and steep discounts on lodging, Children’s Ski School, childcare and more. The event also incorporates group dining, encouraging participants to both spend time together as a family and build relationships with new friends. Through social connection and bonding opportunities, the whole family may reap the healing benefits of community. Active-duty Wounded Warriors scholarships are available during the ski week: Through a VA Adaptive Sports Grant, NFO is offering five (5) scholarships for skiers/snowboarders currently on active duty with vision, intellectual/cognitive or physical diagnoses. The scholarship includes meals, lodging, lift tickets, equipment and lessons for the service member and their family members.
