Equine Spirit Sanctuary to host annual meeting
Equine Spirit Sanctuary, a nonprofit horse rescue and therapeutic riding organization in Ranchos de Taos, is hosting its annual meeting at 2 p.m., Saturday, (Jan. 19) at the stables, 13 Los Caballos Road. The public is welcome. The meeting will give an update of activities and finances from the prior year and plans for 2019.
The organization, which currently has about 20 rescue and program horses on site, depends on donations and volunteers to operate.
Executive director and founder Ruth Bourgeois said in an email they were happy to get a few inches of snow at the sanctuary over New Year’s. “Even though the snow makes it harder to do the daily work and horse care, it is greatly needed,” Bourgeois wrote. “The hay crops for the coming season should be much more abundant. I really do not want to be sending out another appeal next summer begging for donations for high-priced hay. I’d rather be sending out announcements about the programs for the horses and kids.”
Volunteers are needed to help with the horses and the therapeutic riding program. Training is provided. Volunteer times in the winter and early spring are on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays with stall cleaning and horse care beginning at 10 a.m. Volunteer activities in the summertime on those days begin at 9 a.m.
