Maria Chavez Medina

Age 69, of Ranchos de Taos, passed away on January 13, 2019. Maria was a Devout Catholic and held her faith very close to her heart by being a Guadalupan­a and participat­ing in the annual pilgrimage for many years. She pursued many years of education, obtaining her Master’s Degree in Nursing. She was the school nurse at Taos Public Schools for 18 years, prior to that she worked at the Public Health Department and Holy Cross Hospital. Maria was a great mentor and helped many individual­s to believe and trust they could achieve anything they wanted in life. She and her husband owned Ranchos Plaza Grill, but her most important role was being a loving wife, mother and grandmothe­r. She is preceded in death by her father, Gilbert Chavez, brothers, Benjamin and Ernesto Chavez, uncle Bernadino, aunt Dorotea Chavez, uncle Eugenio and aunt, Ida Chavez, niece, Patricia Chavez, mother and father-in-law, Adelina and Juan Manual Medina. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, John Zenovio Medina and mother Andreita Chavez; children, Christine Bradley (Christophe­r), Thomas Medina (Lori), Adam Z. Medina (Raelynn), John Gilbert Medina (Sandy); grandchild­ren, Tomas (Patricia), Alexandra (Ray), Brianna (JC), Alyssa (Daniel), Isaiah (Alanis), Adam Jr. (Jewel), Alejandro, Marisol and Santiago; great-grandchild­ren Kiara, Aarym, Roslyn, and Marialena. She is also survived by sisters, Consuelo (Leo), Valentina (Jesus), Berlinda (Gary) and brothers, Lester Sr. and Lester Jr.; special cousin, Eugenio “Gene” Chavez, and many nieces, nephews family, and friends. Rosary will be recited on Sunday, January 20, 2019, at 6 PM at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, January 21, 2019, at 11 AM with interment to follow at the Jesus Nazareno Cemetery. Special thanks to Father Dino for being present at the time of her passing.
