Business Taos Mountain Energy changes name
New wrapper, same great bar
Taos Bakes landed on shelves recently, a repackaging of what used to be called Taos Mountain Energy Bars.
The name change is an attempt from the company that makes Taos Mountain Energy Bars to try and expand their audience and enter into larger markets rather than just the mountain-going outdoors enthusiast. The recipe remains the same and consumers can still expect the same product from Taos Bakes they have been munching on for nearly 10 years.
“We felt like the package wasn’t necessarily reflective of the product inside,” said Taos Bakes co-founder Kyle Hawari. “It was beautiful packaging but it didn’t get at the main value, which is taste.”
Hawari said the name change has been on the minds of the company for around seven months. The new packaging will include cartoon faces instead of a mountain scene to make the bars more appealing to the everyday shopper, according to Kawari.
Taos Bakes operates in Questa and manufactures and packages their products in house. The bars then make their way to one of the hundreds of locations they are sold in across the county.
The company started nearly 10 years ago by Kawari and co-founder Brooks Thostenson. Since their move from a small kitchen in Taos, their bars have been sold in stores like Whole Foods, REI and others.
“Taos Bakes has invested in the region, and in the process created jobs with fair wages and benefits,” said Questa Mayor Mark Gallegos in a press release. “The company is a huge asset to the regions, and we’re proud to be a key partner in the success story of a made-in-New Mexico company.”
Taos Bakes employs over 60 people in Questa.
New packages should be on store shelves soon.
Kawari said there may be new flavors on the horizon for Taos Bakes soon, too, along with the new packaging.
