Middle-schoolers gear up for class

- — Jesse Moya

Going to a new school can be scary, and Taos Middle School is helping its incoming sixth-graders get over that first-day fear.

Moving on Up is a program at Taos Middle School in which elementary students moving into sixth grade can come meet their teachers and talk about that big transition from elementary to middle school.

The program will help students meet some new friends, work on social and emotional skills and introduce them to a whole new school.

The orientation will run from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., July 28 to Aug. 9.

This program is free, but students will need to sign up beforehand through the Taos Municipal Schools website at taosschools.org. No transportation is provided and students are encouraged to bring a healthy snack and lunch for their day.
