King and Queen of the Rockies Pro and Kids Archery Shoot
In its second year, the shoot, hosted by the Taos Archery Klub, will be held at the Taos Country Club. Friday (June 28) is the kids’ shoot – kids can participate free of charge. Saturday (June 29) at 9 a.m. is the known-yardage pro shoot with 3-dimensional targets. Community members are invited to participate in the kids’ shoot and come out and watch the pro shoot. Summer cross-country conditioning
Any incoming 6th-12th-graders in the Taos schools who are interested in running cross-country are welcome to join us for summer conditioning. Ninth-annual For the Health of It cancer support walk
Cancer walk and family health fair will take place Saturday (June 29) from 9 a.m. to noon at Kit Carson Park. The Holy Cross Medical Center 5K Walk raises funds for the Cancer Support Services they offer for nonmedical cancer care of area residents. This year they have added a family health fair. Taos-area high school mountain bike team
A National Interscholastic Cycling Association Team managed, operated and supported by the Field Institute of Taos is gearing up for the 2019 season. Racers need to sign up for one race before July 29 to get a number plate with their name on it for the season, and race fee scholarships are available (applications due Aug. 15). Fourth of July golf tournament
The Valle Escondito Golf Course in Taos hosts the Fourth of July Tournament on July 6. It will be an “Individual Net Skin” tournament with a women’s division and a men’s. There will be a shotgun start and each hole will have its own prize pool. The public is welcome to play in all Valle Escondito tournaments. The entry fee, which does not include green fees, is $25. Two mulligans can be purchased for $10. Tournaments begin at 9 am. The remaining tournaments this year are the following Saturdays: July 27 (Valle Open Tournament), August 17 (Tartan Tourney) and August 31 (Labor Day Tournament). Free fly-fishing clinic
Learn from the Solitary Angler in a clinic to take place again at Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort every Saturday through Aug. 31 (except for June 8, July 20 and Aug. 10) at 10:30 a.m. Solitary Angler certified instructors provide a 90-minute Quick Start casting class on the Río Pueblo. New this year, Solitary Angler will be teaching an Intro to Fly-Fishing class June 15, July 13 and Aug. 17. Reservations are required for both classes; call (866) 502-1700. KTAOS Solar Volleyball League
The league plays every Tuesday and Friday 5-9 p.m. through Aug. 30. No teams are needed to play. Doors open at 3 p.m. and games commence at 5 p.m. It’s free and everyone is invited to the KTAOS Solar Center (9 State Road 150) to join in.
La Junta Trail Closure continues
The Bureau of Land Management Taos Field Office is keeping La Junta Trail at the Wild Rivers Recreation Area closed for now. La Junta Point Overlook and Campground will remain open during this time. Visitors can access the River Trail and the lower parts of the canyon from the Little Arsenic Springs Trail or Big Arsenic Springs Trail. The BLM asks the public to respect the closure of the trails. Taos Ski Valley hosts the Up and Over 10K
