- By Jesse Moya

Taos immigrant allies Sin Fronteras Nuevo Mexico will be handing out free information on immigration enforcement raids following the announcement that Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers will be conducting sweeps in various cities.

ICE agents were set to being their immigration raids over the past weekend and Sin Fronteras founder Jose Gonzalez began top prep for a possible wave in Taos County. Gonzalez and his crew went into various Taos neighborhoods to try and get the word out to the immigrant community about their rights when faced with an ICE raid. Pamphlets were shared to help immigrants better understand the steps they should take in a situation which could potentially see them deported.

“This is a commitment we will continue to empower to create awareness and cultural compassion,” Gonzalez said.

Sin Fronteras has performed various acts of immigration assistance in the past including gathering supplies from the Taos community and driving them down to various immigration holding centers on both sides of the international border. The group also provides basic medical and mental health evaluations while on their trips thanks to federal grants and the help of community assistance.

Gonzalez and his team will be gathering donations for a presentation about the issues surrounding the current affairs on immigration as well as prepping for a bake sale in the beginning of July.

Currently the organization is looking for water, clothing, toiletries, medicine and shoes. For more information contact sinfronterasnuevomexico@gmail.com.
