Beat the heat with “Twelve Weeks of Taos” event series in Taos Ski Valley

- Dave Norden

Now, more than ever, people are looking to spend their summer vacations in mountain towns like Taos where they can find a wide range of cultural and recreational activities. As such, Taos Ski Valley is advancing rapidly on plans to provide Taos visitors with more yearround options. In addition to developing a robust lineup of activities in the ski valley, we are proud of several new partnerships that we have recently formed with rafting operations, fly-fishing guides and hot air balloon companies – to name a few – so we can direct guests to some of the best attractions in the region.

We are delighted to have the Taos School of Music, Taos Opera Institute and the German School back in residence. Adding to the vibrancy of these cultural groups, each year we expand our event programming to our list of things to do and this summer is shaping up to be our best yet. Beginning July 6, we launch our “Twelve Weeks of Taos” event series bringing activities to Taos Ski Valley every weekend throughout the summer.

The “Twelve Weeks of Taos” lineup includes everything from thrilling recreational events to food and culture:

• July 6: Bacon & Brews

• July 13: Music at The Bavarian

• July 20: Music at The Bavarian

• July 27: Yoga Festival

• August 3: Up & Over: 10k Trail Run

• August 9–11: Archery Festival

• August 17: Music at The Bavarian

• August 23–25: Summer Wine Festival

• August 31: Mutt Strut

• September 7: Ceramics & Spirits

• September 14–15: Oktoberfest Celebration

• September 14: Kachina Peak Marathon

• September 20: A Night of Philanthropy

In addition to this scheduled series of events, the Kachina Basin area of our property is rapidly evolving into the perfect portal to the mountains for those who wish to enjoy the region’s spectacular outdoors. Scenic chairlift rides have resumed this summer on Lift 4. Improvements to the longtime favorite Williams Lake hiking trail have been completed, giving hikers an enriched wilderness experience.

Looking to the future, we’ve started construction on several new mountain bike flow trails. Our first priority is to focus on the broadest segment of the mountain bike market with two beginner/ intermediate trails, which will be serviced by Lift 4 in the Kachina Basin. These scenic trails will offer 6.5 miles of traversing terrain, featuring berms, rollers and bridges, all designed to appeal to a wide range of rider ability levels.

Finally, The Blake, our beautiful new hotel which debuted in February 2017, is open for summer business. We are proud to announce that it was recently recognized by MSN network as the top hotel in New Mexico.

Taos Ski Valley is rapidly moving from a seasonal ski area to a year-round destination. We invite you to join us and take part in the fun.
