Editor’s note: The price of The Taos News rises from $1.00 to $1.50 effective with the July 11 edition. Here’s information concerning the price increase.

Q. Why is The Taos News raising the price of the paper?

A. The price increase was necessitated by rising production and distribution costs. Over the past 10 years, we have absorbed these increases and have not passed them on to you, our readers.

Q. When was the last time the newspaper’s price increased?

A. Ten years ago; 2009 was the last time we raised the newspaper price.

Q. Will this price increase hurt the street vendors?

A. No, just the opposite. We are giving all our street vendors a raise. We will sell the paper to the street vendors at 75 cents a copy, instead of the current rate of 50 cents a copy. They will be making 75 cents on each paper sold, for a raise of 25 cents.
