After winning the District 4 championship in Las Vegas over the weekend of June 15-16, the Taos Little League Minor All Stars age 10-11 softball team has “been working every day – sometimes twice a day – to prepare for the state tournament in Silver City, New Mexico,” reported head coach Kim Marcus.

Pitcher Karmen Fogarty had a combined total of 26 strikeouts during the district tournament.

At the conclusion of the regular season, athletes have the opportunity to participate in a rigorous three-day tryout for the All-Stars team. One of this year’s All-Star athletes, Aubrielle Montez, was injured at practice and “had to get surgery on her nose so that left us with having to find a replacement,” said head coach Marcus. With some help from the Taos Little League Board, they found Charlie Castillo. “With just a couple practices she was welcomed by her teammates and we’ve been training ever since,” Marcus said.

The state tournament will be on July 6-9 in Silver City, New Mexico.

“All of this effort could not be possible without the dedication of parents,” said Marcus.

The team consists of Lilyana Trujillo, Melina Jeantete, Charlie Castillo, Candice Stroback, Braelyn Quintana, Celina Shropshire, Karmen Fogarty, Anjelia Martinez, Arabella Lucero, Monét Romero, Camryn Ortiz, Aubrielle Montez and Mia Williams. In addition to head coach Marcus, the assistant coaches are Ben Jeantete and Ashlynn Silva and the team mom is Krystal Jeantete.
