Taos youth invited to take to the skies
Free flight training with local pilots for kids ages 8-17
TAOS AREA YOUTH
are invited to register for a drawing for free flights with area pilots, to take place Saturday (Sept. 7).
Taos area businesses, organizations and the town of Taos are joining forces to host the 11th annual Taos Youth Flight Rally. The rally is sponsored by Taos Aviation Services, Taos local pilots, Taos Regional Airport, Taos Community Events and Taos Visitor Center – and gives kids the chance to get an inside look at aviation.
Youth can register for a random drawing and have a chance to be one of the 50 selected to fly on Sept. 7. Registration forms are available from Taos Visitor Center at 1139 Paseo del Pueblo Sur. Completed forms must be returned to the visitor center by Sunday, Sept. 1 for consideration. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
Youths whose names are selected will be contacted to arrange a time for their flight, which will begin approximately between 7:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 7.
The program aims to build one-on-one relationships between youths and local pilots who can teach them about “the possibilities that exist in the world of aviation,” said Judy Esquibel, Taos community events coordinator.
Pilots volunteer their time, fuel and aircraft so the program can be free to youth participants. In addition to a free flight, young people get to learn about how airplanes work and about how pilots ensure flight safety.
All youths must be preregistered and accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. This event is contingent on weather conditions and pilot availability. Registration forms are available from the Taos Visitor Center at 1139 Paseo del Pueblo Sur.
