Sanctuary: An Online Studio Tour Film Festival
Featuring visual artist profile streams, artist support auction, cash prizes
WITH THE LOCKDOWN having shut down the town, from music venues to art galleries, theaters to parks, we are witnessing a virtual boom on the web. The folks at Seco Live have also been hard at work online this spring, creating digital opportunities to support the artistic community in Taos.
The nonprofit’s Musical Live Streams have included Christof Brownell, Jimmy Stadler, Poor Man’s Blood, and Jenny Bird, and they are currently collaborating with SOMOS to create opportunities for poets.
Local artist and community member Anee Ward, with the support of the Seco Live board, will be hosting programs to support visual artists as well.

Tonight (May 14), 7 p.m.:
Event introduction with Anee Ward. Ward will announce event and event guidelines, share a demonstration video tour, and visit with some old friends from the early days in Arroyo Seco.
June 4, 7 p.m.: Festival Kick off Zoom Party with artist participants and their supporters. Festival goes live with the 7 p.m. auction. Oscars-type hype and costumes.

Sanctuary: A Virtual Studio Tour Film Festival, will be giving back to visual artists in a myriad of ways.
For the Online Studio Tour Film Festival, local artists will be invited to create a three-minute virtual studio tour for their visual work. The Studio Tour is encouraged to be loosely interpreted, and “can range from the peak of Kachina, to a renovated garage, to the banks of the Río Grande,” Ward notes in her press release. “These videos may include walking tours, stills, art demonstrations, inspiration content, historical photos and more.”
“This is a ‘give back,’ so we don’t want artists to labor too long on these videos, the quality of the artwork and the heart of the commentary will be criteria for judging. That said, we need to be able to see the art and hear the narrator. Modest tech support will be available via email,” Ward explained
The online film festival will live on its own Youtube channel. There will be three popular vote winners and $500 will be awarded to the three videos voted favorite by the public. Artists are encouraged to engage their networks to attend the festival and vote. Two artists will be Seco Live’s Choice Winners and will also receive a cash award of $500 and will be featured with their video in a Seco Live Artist Profile Stream.
The Artist Support Auction will be hosted online, and includes, but is not limited to, the artists submitting video entries. Over a few-weeks period visitors to the Seco Live site will be able to bid on art pieces. The auction is designed as an online selling tool to support artists and share networks. Artists may submit up to three pieces. Ward notes that artists must figure-in shipping costs. Proceeds will be split with 5 percent to auction production, 10 percent to the Youth Art program, and 85 percent to the artist for their basic needs.
