Setting the clerk record straight

- By Tammy Sandoval, Blanca Lopez, Georgia Sanchez and Elena Struck Tammy Sandoval, Blanca Lopez, Georgia Sanchez and Elena Struck live in Taos.

As individual private citizens of Taos County we can no longer stand by and watch from the sidelines without setting the record straight. We are facing a very important election in the County Clerk’s Office and there have been some false statements made as well as inaccurate claims as to how our office has been run by current leadership.

First of all, we have always received compliments, as a staff from the public for our excellent customer service and not just one individual, but all. We work together as a team, no matter the situation. It is already a known fact that we are committed to that as well as accountability in every aspect. We are all clerks to the probate judge and we all assist to the best of our ability. The current Clerk and Chief Deputy Clerk have always been willing and able to step in and work alongside us. They currently have and always had an open

door policy. Most importantly, we all work to assist the public with whatever is needed from our office and we do that with a smile. If we can’t help, then we try to find or guide you to someone who will. Accurate filing of documents has always been important.

Secondly, Valerie Rael-Montoya has assisted the Clerk Anna Martinez in all aspects of the election process for many years. The Clerk’s staff is only responsible for receiving ballot boxes from poll workers on election night, collecting the necessary paperwork and occasionally helping with poll worker trainings. Bureau of Elections staff also works diligently for the voters of the county.

Lastly, there are no shenanigans or question of moral ethics. We can put those claims to rest. There should be no personal vendettas getting in the way of this very important election. We feel that the community knows our office well. We can confidently say that one candidate is more than qualified and knowledgeable in all positions of the Clerk’s Office as well as the Bureau of Elections. We hope that the voters in our community will come together and show their support for a well deserved and experienced candidate.
