MAN VERSUS FISH

Questeño lands biggest pike of his life

-

It is the kind of fish tale that will go down in this family’s lore.

Questeño fisher Elmer Archuleta, 87, battled for 20 minutes to finally land a powerful 30-pound, 42-inch northern pike in southern Colorado over the May 16 weekend. Archuleta used only a 10-pound test line, no steel liter and a No. 8-size hook with regular Powerbait to land the big fish. After the long battle, with no net, his son jumped into the lake, grabbed the fish barehanded and threw it to the shore. It was the biggest fish Archuleta has ever caught.

Are you out in the beautiful Northern New Mexico landscape catching some prize fish? Send us a photo of the best one you’ve caught so far this year with your name, date of your catch and any details about how you landed the big one. Send to editor@taosnews.com or text (505) 470-9843.
