Wilbert R. Vigil

Wilbert went to Our Lord on July 4, 2020 at 71 years of age. He was preceded in death by his father Leopoldo Vigil; brother Leopoldo Vigil Jr.; father-in-law Joe Alex Maestas; and brother-inlaw Alex Maestas. Wilbert is survived by his one true love of over 50 years, Elma Vigil; his sons Wilbert John Vigil Jr. (Rhonda), Benito Vigil (Deserie), Gabriel Vigil (Milly) and stepson Manuel Maestas; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grand children and 2 on the way. He is also survived by his mother Licia E. Vigil; siblings Lillian Simermeyer (Ed), Roseline Blea (Gabriel), Serafin Vigil (Lorrie), Rebecca Matte (Tom), Annette Vigil, Thomas Vigil (Jenny), Francisco Vigil, Kay Vigil, Ramon Vigil, Gary Vigil (Sherri) and Maria Aragon (Santos); sister-in-law Theresa Vigil; mother-in-law Josie Maestas, his in-laws Joann Gallegos (Steve), Darlene Salazar (Peter), Paula Schuldheiz (John), Andy Maestas (Connie), Freddie Maestas (Pam), Terry Maestas (Lynette), Pat Maestas, Julie Maestas (Joe), David Maestas (Denise), Phillip Maestas (Claudia); sister-in-law Debbie Maestas; 22 goddaughters, 2 godsons and many more family and friends. Wilbert was well known and loved by everyone he met. He touched so many lives with his sense of humor, character, and his presence would light up the room. He loved spending time with his family and especially loved to attend parties which brought everyone together. Wilbert was involved in the Taos Fiesta Council, Mayordomo for the San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church, and a volunteer member of the Hondo-Seco Fire Department. He drove a 16-wheeler for over 40 years, he was known as the Silver Bullet, the Coors man, embollau, compadre, honey, father, grandpo, and friend. Wilbert would go to Walmart every day with a brown paper bag for his wife, just to take her a red bull. He loved Elma very much, they had a very special bond. Serving as pallbearers are: John, Benito, Gabriel, Santi, Serafin and Gary Vigil. The Vigil family would like to send a special thank you to the staff of Holy Cross Hospital in Taos, Presbyterian Hospital in Espanola, St. Vincent’s Hospital in Santa Fe, Anvoi Compassionate Hospice Care, Dr. Abe Balsmo and staff at Schreiber Family Medicine. Louie and Patsy Martinez and especially Father Daniel and Deacon Jerry from Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, a GoFundMe account has been set up under Wilbert R.
