Locals had a fun time Saturday afternoon (Oct. 17) as they searched for clues in the first Scavenger Hunt, organized by a small but growing social media business.

“We also run @TaosBusiness and @TaosCounty, and many other local business Instagram feeds/ websites,” according to a message from the organizers, a couple who choose to be anonymous for now. The event, which began a little past 3 p.m., “Taos time,” involved watching the Instagram feed for clues, which they used to find prizes in the Taos Historic District.

“We are two local Taoseños that are trying to show the best best things about Taos and also do fun and safe things for the townspeople,” the organizers said.

Among clues followers used were “Doña Luz is across the bank,

take a walk over there. You’ll find a prize for skin care,” “I’m change, but today I have a yellow dot with a special number. Sometimes I’m lucky and sometimes I’m not,” “The old pool, where people go to school. Along this street you’ll find a book box and maybe even a sock,” “Go to the Taos Library and you will see a grey SUV. Take the brown card, it’s OK … my car alarm won’t scare you away.”

Each hint was removed from the Instagram story when the prize was found.

Businesses involved include Hitching Post Shave Company, Just Point It, Taos Leather, Bison Star, Gutters Taos, Michelle’s, Orlando’s, Cottam’s Ski Shop, Leeandra Muñoz, Elijah Rael, Chokola, Taos Hum, Wake and Take, Rolling Still, Boxie Tee, Sluggers and Taos Country Club.
