Haven Lindsey at SOMOS

Taos-based author Haven Lindsey, reads May 8 at 10 a.m. in a 30-minute SOMOS virtual reading, from her first book in a series, The Blue Dog and The White Horse ‘Adventures on a Texas Ranch,’ published November 2020. The book is comprised of six true stories about the friendship between the author’s dog, a small blue heeler named Gracie, and a wise old roping horse named Max. Lindsey introduced Gracie to Max in hopes she would gain confidence after surviving a traumatic ‘puppyhood.’ Lindsey watched Max bond with the young, timid dog. Together they experienced adventures and became best friends. Gracie learned to trust and Max learned he still had a purpose.

“I was fortunate to watch their natural friendship unfold and at times I felt like the third wheel,” Lindsey says. “Animals have a lot to teach us when we slow down long enough to listen. My heart was touched by their friendship and I wanted to share that experience with others.”

The Blue Dog and The White Horse is well-suited for children ages 7-10, however, younger children enjoy having the stories read to them and adults resonate with the stories that touch on loyalty, challenges, fear and being present.
