Lady Tigers post-game interview

After first-round win against the Los Lunas Tigers

PRO VIEW SPORTS NETWORK REPORTER: Kionamua Ely, 16 points today. Taos beat Los Lunas 42 to 28. You faced the Tigers about a month

before and you beat them by seven. Today, a little bit more of an easier job

but Los Lunas did make a run in the fourth quarter.

ELY: I think we just have to play more as a team. And that first month that we played them, we were really off and we had a player out. So it was a rough

month. But I think this week we came out and we were ready to win this whole tournament. So it’s just a starter game pretty much.

REPORTER: All 16 of your points right around the basket. I thought your teammates did a very good job of getting you the basketball.

ELY: Yeah, they did. Yeah, it’s been hard, because we’ve never really had a post [post player]. So it’s hard trying to get the points to know where to get the post balls. So it’s definitely a lot better now.

REPORTER: What do you think you have to do going forward to establish some consistency and get some more wins?

ELY: I think we just need to stay more calm because we get really in our

heads and stuff like that. But I think our coaches are doing a great job keeping

us contained because I think we take things, like very literally, so you just

need to stay calm and play our game.

After semifinals win against the Bloomfield Bobcats

LEROY LUCERO: Madelynn Quintana 15 points on the night. What do you think about tonight’s contest?

QUINTANA: I think that tonight

we played a good game. I think we definitely underestimated them in the

beginning. But in the second half, we definitely picked it up. They’re a very good team and I think we did what we needed to do in order to win.

LUCERO: Really impressed with Taos’ defense tonight

QUINTANA: Oh yeah, we’ve been working a lot on that. We’re really

passionate about defense

After championship round win against the St. Pius X Lady Sartans

AARON RIVERA: During that whole

game, you didn’t have all the offensive stats, but you were all over the ball the

whole game. What were you seeing down on the court that made you so effective?

MARTINEZ: I think it’s really just trying to do what’s best for the team and just trying to be in a good position and

move the ball around, and I don’t know just see it and go after it.

RIVERA: I mean, talk about early on in the game, they took the momentum of it and early on, they had a couple of

steals, and then you got in, you stuck your hand on the ball, you took the ball away and put some points on the board. Talk about that kind of momentum shift where you guys kind of took control.

MARTINEZ: I think for us, it’s definitely about just trying to stay calm and composed. I know that we’re definitely

not a first half team. But we do get teams tired. And we definitely came out big in the second half.

RIVERA: And so obviously, you win this one and you’re moving on to district

play, how do you feel moving into district play? And you know, just kind of going down the final stretch of the season?

MARTINEZ: We’re still working. I think we’ve got a lot to do, but we’re doing

good. So I think we just need to get out there and kick some butt.
