Man arrested after allegedly hitting pedestrian with ATV
Roland Sisco, 30, of Ranchos de Taos was arrested in the area Thursday night (March 17) after he allegedly hit another man with his ATV.
Sisco has been charged with causing great bodily harm by vehicle while intoxicated (a thirddegree felony); aggravated battery (another third-degree felony); reckless driving and driving with a suspended license (both petty misdemeanors).
According to a statement of probable cause filed in Taos Magistrate Court Friday (March 18), Taos County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on La Morada Lane in Ranchos de Taos after hearing reports of an ATV/pedestrian crash.
The deputies found Sisco being “combative” with Taos County Emergency Medical Services, and another man, Angel Rey, “screaming in pain,” according to the statement, with significant injuries to his body and legs. Rey was transported to the hospital, where he was intubated.
The incident began just before 10 p.m., according to two witnesses who said they heard yelling and a four-wheeler driving up and down La Morada Lane. They also witnessed another man in a white Chevrolet, who they said was attempting to calm down the man on the ATV, according to the statement.
Meanwhile, the witnesses said Sisco was circling the man in the pickup truck, telling the man that he “owed him.” They also said they heard the man in the pickup saying that Sisco had the wrong person, according to the statement.
As the witnesses got in their vehicle to head toward La Morada Lane, they said they noticed tennis shoes in the roadway and that the ATV had crashed. One witness helped a male who was “stuck on a barbed wire fence,” while the other witness lifted the overturned ATV off Sisco, who allegedly then became “verbally threatening.”
Deputies said they could smell alcohol on Sisco. When they questioned him, he told them the altercation took place because Rey “owed him his life.”
During his first appearance on Friday before Judge Ernest Ortega, Sisco pleaded not guilty to all four charges.
