The Taos County Sheriff’s Office arrested a wanted Texas man Thursday (March 17) after he allegedly shot at a car near Two Peaks. Barney Ross Billue Jr., 35, allegedly chased a car containing a man and his two daughters and shot at them, according to witness statements and an affidavit for an arrest warrant filed.

After the man, identified in court documents as Brett Donnelly, and his daughters managed to escape, they came into town to file an official complaint. Video evidence filmed by one of Donnelly’s daughter’s corroborated what Donnelly had stated.

Sheriff’s deputies then drove out to the Two Peaks area, eventually finding Billue at a friend’s house on Sheep Herder Road.

Billue initially tried to run, but he was quickly located “between 100 to 150 feet from the residence” lying down in the sagebrush.

After being arrested, another deputy found a Glock pistol in a tan leather holster, which the homeowner alleged to belong to Billue.

Billue has been charged with two counts of child abuse for shooting at the car with children in it (third-degree felonies); aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (a fourth-degree felony); two counts of shooting at a motor vehicle (also fourth-degree felonies); possession of a firearm by a felon (a thirddegree felony); tampering with evidence (a third-degree felony); and evading arrest (a misdemeanor).

Billue is currently being held without bond at the Taos County Adult Detention Center until his extradition to Texas, where he faces another charge of possession of a firearm by a felon.

Billue is set to appear for a status hearing on March 24 at 2 p.m. This is a developing story.
