World Pro Ski Tour returns to Taos Ski Valley
Competition puts New Mexico on world’s stage
Taos Ski Valley will host the World Pro Ski Tour World Championships event April 8-10, shining a light on the incomparable mountains and unique spirit of Northern New Mexico, and celebrating the sport of skiing.
The World Pro Ski Tour is the country’s foremost professional alpine race tour. Through a series of events that make up the tour, skiers earn points and the chance to compete at Taos for a World Pro Ski Tour World Championships title. The prestigious championships event draws professional athletes from all over the world. Taos’ world-renowned terrain will be highlighted on international television.
After putting this event on hold the last two seasons due to COVID-19, it is finally rescheduled and just in time to show off Taos Ski Valley’s renaissance. While significant improvements have been made over the past several years, Taos’ “better not bigger” motto means that the unique spirit and character of the ski valley is still about a pure mountain experience. Proudly independent amidst a rapidly consolidating industry, Taos Ski Valley will greet competitors with a welcoming spirit rooted in the natural environment. Taos has always been about the celebration
of nature and sport, and as such, is the perfect host for this prestigious alpine event.
The event continues to build on relationships that we have across the state — we have partnered with Keep New Mexico True as lead sponsor for the World Championships and our local Centinel Bank as lead sponsor of the Junior Ski Tour Challenge race on Friday.
This will be New Mexico’s opportunity to welcome a worldfamous group of Olympians and
World Cup athletes from a dozen countries, including Norway, Canada, Germany, Italy, Slovakia and Austria, and demonstrate that we have the terrain, resources and, most importantly, the enthusiasm to host an event of this magnitude. In Taos Ski Valley, these elite athletes will find some of the best terrain in North America and deep spring snow under sunny skies.
The World Pro Ski Tour Championships will harken back to other events hosted in Taos
throughout history, and visits from legendary names in the sport such as Alberto Tomba, Deb Armstrong and Mike Hattrup. This year, spectators can look forward to seeing today’s top athletes and emerging stars, including Beijing 2022 Olympic competitors Katie Vesterstein (EST), Magdalena Luczak (POL), Trisia Mangan (USA), Paula Moltzan (USA), Erin Mielzynski (CAN), Emelia Smart (USA), Thomas Birkner (ARG), Linus Strasser (GER), River Radamus (USA), Luke
Winters (USA), Erik Read (CAN) and Simon Breitfuss Kammerlander (BOL).
Join us April 8-10 on the mountain to take in this world-class event and watch Taos Ski Valley represent our great state on an international stage. The event is free and open to the public, or event tickets with perks for eventgoers and proceeds going to Taos Pueblo Working on Wellness nonprofit can be purchased.
