El Grampo agarra una Lenten Penance poco extraña

- Larry Torres

Ya casi era the end of Lent which meant que el tiempo del Holy Week was fast approaching. El Grampo Caralampio knew que he hadn’t been a la confesión desde el last year. He always tried to go to Confession al menos una vez al año. He sat en su troca trying to remember cuales cosas eran when he had made bad choices. That was called ‘la Examinación de Consciencia’. Once he had figured out todos sus pecados, he drove to church hoping to clear his mind. He walked over para el confesionario, but he found de que el Padre was waiting for him outside. Quickly el grampo realized that the mayordomos were cleaning the church en ese tiempo de manera que he would have to wait.

He waited para que el Padre walked over to him y le dijo: “Mano Caralampio, I’m sorry pero están limpiando la iglesia. We are going to have to find otro lugar para la confesión. It should be a place donde nadie can hear you confesándose.”

El grampo looked around, buscando algún secret place donde pudiera unburden himself. At length, vio a su troquita vieja en el parking lot.

“Well Padre, I guess que puedo ir and do my Confession en mi little ole truck,” he offered. El Padre knew que era un poco unorthodox pero he couldn’t think of another place tampoco, so he followed a Mano Caralampio over to his truck watching mientras que todo ese dust clung thickly a su alba. He hopped unto el asiento and sat cerca de Mano Caralampio, waiting for him que comenzara.

Mano Caralampio first checked las ventanas de la troca just to make sure de que no passer-by might overhear him. Cuando vio that the windows were secure, he began: “Acúseme Padre, que he pecado. It has been casi un año desde mi última Confesión.”

El Padre tried to concéntrate en la Confesión del grampo, but he kept gazing at all the dust on the dashboard. Obviously grampo hadn’t had time de limpiar su troca antes de Confession. He just kept rambling on about all his sins a través del año. In the meantime, the priest started to sneeze con todo el polvo. He even began to run his finger over the dust en el salpicadero while grampo tried to pray por La Ánima de Xalapa and otros unknown holy people. He tried to think of other sins que había olvidado so that they wouldn’t come back to haunt him.

Grampo just sat them acusándose de all kinds of bad things como hacía in the olden days cuando era un little boy and he would invent sins como ‘breaking a window’ hasta que le preguntó el Padre, ‘m’hijo, ¿cuántas veces did you break esa ventana?” He was sure that the priest was really going to lay it to him porque había hecho tantas cosas malas.

As he was waiting for the priest to come up con una buena penitencia para él, he kept looking at him desde el corner of his eye, who was still running his finger por todo el dashboard. Finally, he said: “Señor Caralampio, I have been thinking de lo que dice en la Biblia: ‘Remember man that you are dust and unto dust you shall return. Pero Usted se descompasa de eso. It seems to me que Usted está tratando to return back to dust antes de tiempo. For your penance, I want you to go and wash your truck real good and remember de que cleanliness is next to Godliness. Vaya con Dios. Grampo felt bien relieved…
