It is with heavy hearts that the family of Petronila M. Pacheco announces her passing on September 4, 2022 with her loving family by her side. She died a peaceful death at her home in Nambe, New Mexico. There were fresh cut flowers in the room from Gloria’s, her daughters flower garden. Petronila was the daughter of Jose Agustin Armijo and Adelina Armijo-Romero. Petronila was born on May 14, 1935 at the family home in Ojo Sarco, New Mexico. Petronila lived most of her adult life in Rio Lucio, New Mexico. The last 15 years of her life she lived in Nambe, New Mexico with her loving daughter Gloria Ann Martinez. Being the wife of a miner Petronila spent brief periods in Minturn, Colorado, Butte, Montana and Grants, New Mexico. While residing in Rio Lucio Petronila loved taking care of her flower garden. She also enjoyed baking, sewing and Arts and Crafts. She made the best fluffy tortillas. The kind you can split apart and put butter on. Petronila helped raise seven children. One adopted grandson which she raised as her own. Petronila was preceded in death by the father of her children, Gilbert B. Pacheco Sr., sisters; Melba Medina, Jennie Rivera and Cidelia Aguilar, brothers Nestor Armijo and Arturo Armijo. Petronila is survived by all seven of her adult children. Gilbert Pacheco Jr., Maria Arellano Martinez, Le Roy J. Pacheco (Elaine), Richard A. Pacheco (Renee), Emily Ortega, Gloria Ann Martinez and Bobby Pacheco. Petronila is also survived by her last eldest living sibling, Helen Sanchez. She is also survived by 12 grandchild­ren, 15 great-grandchild­ren, and 2 great-great-grandchild­ren. Petronila was expecting her third great-great grandchild this November. The family wishes to thank the team of caregivers who assisted in the medical care of our dear mother. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention them by name. Nurses, Danielle Wolfe, Angela Roth, Carol Ann Durham and Cari Alcouffe. All are with the Los Alamos Visiting Nurse Service. We wish to thank the people from El Mirador Home Care. Special thanks go to two caregivers that gave our mother kind, compassion­ate, attentive and patient care. Ana Magallanes and Yolanda Magallanes. We know that our mother was grateful to each and everyone of you. Thank you. Services for Petronila are as follows: Public visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 10:00 a.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 am on September 14, 2022 at the Vadito, New Mexico Lady of Our Sorrows church. Internment will follow at the Ojo Sarco Cemetery. The Pacheco family has entrusted the care of their beloved Petronila to De Vargas Funeral Home & Crematory of Espanola, New Mexico.
