RYAN BABB WROTE:

That’s why I always say stay away from that canyon when it’s been raining tell my son that all the time. HELEN TUCKER WROTE:

Glad no one sustained serious injuries. We were delayed by 18 wheelers yesterday morning. Might have saved us from the rock slide!

Fast and the Paseo

BMORE.KEITH WROTE:

In fairness, US 64 from Cimmaron to Taos, is some of the best driving roads I’ve ever been on.

‘The winds have welcomed you’

SAGEBRUSHGHOST WROTE:

I hope they do balloon trick or treating again! That was such a fun experience!

CASSMTZ WROTE:

Because we have no housing and no gainful employment. Taos has leaned on a tourism-based economy for too long. Your new adults and workforce have been forced out by starvation wages in historic levels of inflation and a housing crisis caused by the AirBnb, corporate, and vacation rental industries. If there’s nowhere for us to live and no jobs pay us enough to live, we will take our families elsewhere.

New airport terminal design approved

DUSTYBOOTS WROTE:

Interesting how they are able to procure $5.4 million for an unnecessary airport terminal designed to serve wealthy tourists coming to ski, while the workers at TSV have no place to live because the town allotted a whopping $75,000 for affordable housing. Epic fail…!

LJM WROTE:

Having received a block grant designed for community development, am I right in thinking that the Taos community will benefit from taxes on the business, enough to recoup the expenditure?

Wild horses deserve a home in the West

GUEST0000 WROTE:

What this author writes make sense to me. You always have to look at the money. How much land is being used for the production of hay? In these inflationary times, I assume the cost of feed has gone up, making it harder to feed livestock. Also with community growth as in people buying up land for housing, this could impact the amount of grazing needed for local livestock. So what’s the motive. Will see gung hoe people out there in the wild wild west to shoot em’ up? Horse meat anyone? I have seen herds of wild horses running through the mountains of Shasta County, Calif. freely without protest from their human neighbors. They are beautiful and represent the spirit of freedom and strength to me. However the website called Salt River Wild Horse Management Group states the following about the benefits of wild horses to the agriculture:

“Wild horses contribute a great deal of positive elements to the environment they live in. They are the creators of the mesquite forests, which serve as protective shaded resting areas for themselves as well as all other wildlife and birds. They then also landscape these forests by hedging the mesquite trees from the bottom, which is positive, because it makes them grow higher and it creates room to move under the trees. The horses consume both the leaves and the beans from the tree, which then creates new seedling trees that they also fertilize so they can grow to maturity. They rarely get credit for it, but they are great landscapers of their environments.” Also reading on in this topic I see that they are a management group. One of their articles talks about the demise of the wild horse population with the local dept. of forestry evicted them from their idyllic lifestyle. Where they were living freely with their herd families, now they have been displaced to places unknown, glue factories, dog food factories, or? Instead, this horse management group, based in Salt Lake City manage this displacement of horses by auctioning them off to non-threatening environments or loving homes. Ever wanted to give your child a horse? What an amazing gift that would be.

You can learn how to help these animals on FaceBook at Salt River Wild Horse Management Group. There is a beautiful video there that should help you re-realize the beauty of these magnificent animals and the benefit they bring to their environments.
