Taos Onstage presents Marjorie Prime

- STAFF REPORT

TAOS ONSTAGE will be presenting eight live performances of “Marjorie Prime” by Jordan Harrison, to kick off the 10th Anniversary season of Taos Onstage.

“Marjorie Prime” is Jordan Harrison’s 2015 Pulitzer Prize-finalist play. With help from an intriguingly innovative technology in a future not far from our present, Marjorie examines her past, sometimes replacing her realities with idealized memories. Through deeply drawn characters — both real and in the form of artificial intelligence companions, or “Primes,” Marjorie Prime burrows into troubling questions of the digital age: What would we remember, and what would we forget, given the power of authorship? Will we be any less human once computers know us better than ourselves? This richly wondrous play explores the mysteries of human identity and limits — if any — of what technology can replace.

‘I am particularly excited as I have been cast in one of the parts, as well as my husband, Mike Morris,” says Pam Morris. “We also have two new additions that we are thrilled to work with on this play — André Callot, who is also a Board Member of Taos Onstage, is directing our first play with us,” Morris continues, “He teaches filmmaking and film studies at UNM - Valencia.

“The other newcomer is Bryce Flanagan,

who is currently studying with Bruce McIntosh and has been cast in the role of Walter Prime. Ruth Fairbach is the 4th cast member and she plays the title role of Marjorie Prime. It is a great cast and we are having so much fun working together. It is an intriguing story with some haunting ideas about how technology may (or may not) help us deal with grief in the future.”
