Gremlins, ghosts and all things pumpkin
The Town of Taos celebrates Halloween
Frost is on the woodpile and the smell of piñon and crisp green chilis roasting is wafting round town. Halloween is just around the corner and a few traditions in town are not to be missed —at the top of the gremlins, ghosts and observance of all things pumpkin is the Town of Taos Community Celebration of Halloween which happens Monday, Oct. 31 from 3-6 p.m. The ghoulish fun will spill from the Taos Plaza over to Teresina Lane, down to Juan Largo Lane, slithering a path to the John Dunn Shops and Bent Street.
This season vows to be the strongest in the event’s history, with the Taos Historic District merchants getting spiffed up in their holiday finest to hand out treats to trick-or-treaters. Local businesses, organizations and church groups offer decorated trunks full of treats for trick-or-treating and carnival games with prizes.
Everywhere you look, there will be free treats and mementos to remember Halloween 2022 — and for the first time — Thea’s Zoo carnival ride, a unique spin ride with every arm displaying a different animal to complete ‘Thea’s Zoo,’ named after the owner’s daughter. The four colorful animals comprise a dog, a dragon, a monkey and a penguin. The Thea’s Zoo carnival spin ride is the only one in the United States. Another featured carnival ride is Elephant Tower with five flying pink elephants. There are only three in the United States — both rides are historic family-friendly rides.
The Town of Taos would like to thank everyone for taking part in this fun-filled event so magical for the children and families of the community. The event is made possible because of many volunteers, staff, judges, police, fire, security, merchants, business owners, organizations and sponsors that help to work together to bring the community a fun, safe, and supervised Halloween event.
